This was a super quick & inexpensive makeover of an apartment kitchen.
This kitchen opens onto a sitting room with plenty of light, so it allows for a dark dramatic colour scheme. This wasn't a standard kitchen, so replacing the doors wasn't an option. So I decided to remove the high presses & replace them with thick rustic shelves. I got these in a salvage yard, they were scaffolding planks (€25). Heavy duty cast iron shelf brackets support the shelves. The doors on the bottom of the kitchen were then covered with black vinyl which is simple to do, and very inexpensive. Some cup hooks & new brass handles & it's like a different kitchen!
Pop of colour
When using dark colours in a block like this, I think it is important to punctuate it with accents of colour. Here I've used bright yellow mugs, clock & rug to lighten the scheme. I also used plants to add greenery, I love to use hanging plants on shelves as they break up the horizontal lines of the shelves.
